Sonic open in Willow Grove (and a coupon!)

A new cool fast-food restaurant to our area -- Sonic, "America's Drive-In" -- has been open for a few weeks on Easton Road. We hear it's been packed with people since opening.

Though I have never been to a Sonic, I hear that it's decent food and fun for adults and kids. I also hear there are some more options for picky eaters here.

Check it out, and click here for a coupon for a free Sonic burger when you buy one.

Old Navy: Great deals at Jenkintown, Grand Opening in Willow Grove

Did you know that the Old Navy on Old York Road in Jenkintown is closing this month? A brand-new, huge Old Navy will be opening up right outside of the Willow grove mall.

I went to the Jenkintown Old Navy this week and there were AMAZING deals to be found. I bought about 20 items, all priced between $.99 and $2.50. (Most of the store is 75% off!) I got some summer stuff as well as fall stuff (sweat pants, long sleeved shirts, a jean jacket for me, jeans for Mike, etc) Two big bags later filled with great stuff for my family, I felt great spending $40 total! It's definitely worth a trip, but items are going fast and the store is closing in a week or so.

The new store, which is at 2510 West Moreland Rd (where the old Circuit City used to be, next to Dick's Sporting Goods) is part of Old Navy's "Beautification Project" and is one of their new and redesigned stores for 2010 (The only one is PA to be redesigned). They are having a Grand Opening Party next weekend, on July 31st. Doors open at 9am. They are giving away some awesome prizes:

  • $500 shopping spree
  • $200 shopping spree
  • Old Navy famous jeans or
  • Graphic tees
To be eligible to win one of these prizes, you need to be one of the first 200 people to visit the new store. The first 200 people will be given a wrist band or ticket. Each person with a wrist band or ticket will receive a prize!

Have fun!

ps. If you visit the Jenkintown store, make sure you pick up a coupon for the new store ($10 off a purchase of $50 or more, on Saturday July 31st only)

Very excited about new fall shopping!

Yesterday I had an amazing shopping day for two reasons:
1. It was the Nordstrom Anniversary sale and I got some amazing deals and
2. I was able to order an amazing amount of new jewelry from the new Stella & Dot fall collection, which launched yesterday. (Yes, shameless self-promotion to come. But after all, this is my blog!)

Nordstrom:
Ladies (and men)... you need to go. Fall and winter items at 33% off, and amazing styles to choose from! The sale goes from now through August 2nd, and it is not to be missed. (Family promotion: should you go, ask for my step-brother Jay Eisenberg or his fiance Heather Wright to help you! They are fabulous and knowledgeable!)  If for some reason you can't get there, check out the items online!

Stella & Dot:
Some of you may know that in April I started a new business as a stylist for Stella & Dot, an amazing, trendy, incredible jewelry company. Yesterday their gorgeous fall/winter line was launched, and I was like a kid on Christmas (or at least what I think a kid on Christmas would feel like!) picking out all of my new jewels.

Please, check out the new look book and let me know your thoughts! I love the collections which range from Metro-chic, to vintage luxe, pieces that can easily go from day to night, and so much more.

(And here comes the REAL shameless promotion...) If you want to be one of the first of your friends to host a fall trunk show, and you book in August or Sept, I am giving $25 gift certificates to be used at your show. Woo hoo! More free beautiful jewelry on top of the hundreds that most of my hostesses get. Email me to book your show!

Some nice specials at Trax Cafe!

I really like Trax in Ambler. Every time I eat there I really enjoy the food and atmosphere... plus it is around the corner! I think it is time to go back soon, especially now that Trax is offering three nice promotions right now!

PRIX-FIXE DINNER
They are now offering a 3-course prix fixe dinner including a Trax house salad, choice of 4 specially-prepared entrees (Penne Portobello with Pesto; Veal Sirloin, Picatta; Pan Seared Pork Tenderloin with Seasonal Salsa or Oven Roasted Tilapia Scampi) and their freshly-baked dessert du jour. It is available on Tuesdays through Fridays from 4:30 - 6 p.m. for $24.95 per person, not including tax or gratuity. Great when you're hopping off the train, have a "tired-of-cooking" night or for a pre-theater dinner. Or a girls night out! Reservations needed: 215/591-9777 or online.

BIRTHDAY TREAT
Trax is offering a sweet birthday gift for you! For your birthday, they'll send you an email good for a complimentary dessert at Trax Restaurant & Cafe. Just tell them your birthday and when your special day rolls around, you'll hear from them. You can redeem it any day that month. What a sweet way to celebrate!

COMPLIMENTARY WINE!
Chef Waxman suggests pairing his Half Roasted Duck with 3 Berry Sauce with Wild Horse Pinot. The pairing works so well, in fact, that they're offering a complimentary glass of wine with every order of the Half Roasted Duck.

The 2008 Pinot from Wild Horse Winery in California has a lush mouth feel and enticing acidity. The aromas and flavors of fresh strawberries, forest floor and hints of vanilla from 100% oak aging make the wine an ideal partner for the crispy duck dish, with its blackberry, raspberry & blueberry sauce. Available while supply lasts.

Enjoy these specials!!!

Went to Noboru in Montgomeryville and I was literally giddy...

I have been interested in trying out Noboru -- a new Japanese sushi buffet in Montgomeryville -- for a few weeks now. So when a group of friends and I decided to try it out for lunch one day with our little kids, I was definitely excited to try it out.

Well, let me just tell you now... we all LOVED this place! It was so great for both us and the kids! Here is why:

- most importantly, the sushi was abundant and delicious! Very fresh and great!

- the amount of variation of food at the buffet was AMAZING. All of us were like kids in a candy store looking around at the wide variety of foods to try. Besides the awesome sushi and rolls, there was a huge section of hot Chinese, Japanese, and Korean food. There were tons of salads (seaweed, etc), an udon station and other soups, more typical foods like chicken, seafood, and pasta dishes, and some great dessert stations, like an ice cream/tart yogurt sundae station, cakes and cookies (all mini-sized!), and a crepe station! For dinner, they have a Hibachi station, too!

- How great is this... kids 3 and under EAT FREE!!!  (and if your kids are older, prices are very reasonable and reduced -- see below for pricing) There is plenty of kid food for those kids (or adults!) that don't eat your more traditional Japanese food.

- The decor inside is nice, clean, and open. The restaurant is very large and easy to have a quick, but nice, lunch or dinner.

- Service was great! Our waiter was attentive, detailed, and very good with the 5 three-year olds that were with us.

Let's just say that I think this group of moms and kids will be making it our weekly tradition to go to Noburu since we loved it so much! You need to try it too!

I just made $100 cash at the Closet Exchange!

Did you know that the Closet Exchange in Abington (around the corner from the Willow Grove Mall) buys and sells lightly used, brand name clothing and accessories for teens and adults?

I brought in a bunch of stuff that doesn't fit me any more (lots of brand name jeans, shirts, etc) and walked out with $100 cash on the spot. Now that I know what they sell and carry in the store, I plan to come back with more shirts, pants, skirts, bags, and more.

Most of the items there were geared to a younger audience, and brand names were not just high end, but also your more mainstream brand names like Old Navy, J. Crew, Gap, H&M, and more.

Learn more about what they take and don't by visiting their website. You don't need an appointment to bring in clothing, you just need to go at least one hour before close. And of course you can go anytime to shop!  Check it out!

Now Open: Seasons 52

Last night, I was really excited to check out Seasons 52 which just opened last week in King of Prussia. Seasons 52 is a fresh grill that has a seasonally inspired menu and award winning international wine bar. They prepare their meals using rustic cooking techniques such as grilling or roasting over open fires to enhance the flavor of each dish. Every week of the year, as different foods reach their seasonal peak of taste, Seasons 52 seeks out the best, market-fresh products such as vine-ripened heirloom tomatoes in summer, crisp apples in autumn, hearty root vegetables in winter and tender asparagus in spring. Each meal is nutritionally balanced to include the highest quality lean meats and seafood, good carbs and beneficial oils such as extra virgin olive oil.

Overall, I was very impressed with our dining experience. When we first arrived, we were greeted by complimentary valet parking which was a nice touch. The ambiance was beautiful, warm and inviting and the place was packed! We waited in the bar area for a short time before we were seated. Inside the bar area there was a live piano player that plays nightly. Once seated, we were taken back (in a good way) to see that the menu stated that ALL menu items were 475 calories or less! That was very extraordinary! Equally impressive was their tremendous international selection of 100 wines, including 60 offered by the glass!

Our waiter Tom was amazing! He knew everything we had asked him about the menu and when I asked him which Riesling wine was the sweetest, he pointed one out to me, but asked if I would prefer a Moscato (which is even sweeter). I happen to prefer Moscato over Riesling, but hadn't even noticed it on the wine list, and I was so impressed that he had suggested it instead. The Moscato was sweet and delicious.

My husband and I were with friends and we started with some Flatbreads that were out of this world! I could have just ate those all night! They have several different kinds to choose from. The menu had a little bit of everything, chicken, steak, pasta, fish and salads. We each ordered our own entree and thought the food was very good! I had a Char Crust Filet Mignon, which I really enjoyed.

Their desserts, called Mini Indulgences, were served in shot-size glasses making them the perfectly proportioned size! We had the Key Lime Pie and the Rocky Road which were so scrumptious!

Beyond the food itself, we were all taken back by the focus on customer service throughout the meal. The restaurant's General Manager, made his rounds to all of the tables in the restaurant, looking to ensure that everything about our meal was to our liking. Additionally, another manager in the restaurant also checked on us during our meal. At the end of our stay our waiter handed us his business card and said that anytime we come back to just ask for his section and there will be a table waiting for us. Now that is awesome customer service!! We will definitely be back again!

They do have a second floor for private events and there is a smaller room available on the first floor as well. Great to keep in mind when planning your next party!

Another sushi review at the new Vic in Springhouse

Today I got to try another new sushi restaurant, Vic Sushi Bar, that recently opened up (about 3 weeks ago) on Bethlehem Pike in Springhouse. Apparently Vic was originally located in Center City, and was known to be a great spot for sushi downtown.

This very small (I'm talking teeny) place in a small strip mall seemed to have a steady stream of take-out customers coming in and out. A group of friends, our kids, and I were the only ones sitting (and they didn't have much more room other than the sushi bar and a few other tables).

We tried the three-roll special, which was $10.95 for your choice of three basic rolls. I had yellowtail and scallion, spicy tuna, and sweet potato tempura. I have to say, all three of my rolls were delicious, and my friends agreed that their rolls were fresh and tasty.

The menu gets much more extensive with a number of specialty rolls, and it also includes a large sampling of Thai food as well.

I definitely forsee doing take-out from Vic Sushi Bar in the near future, and I recommend that you try it too!

Restaurant Review: Kumo in North Wales

Last week I had the opportunity to try the new Japanese/sushi restaurant, Kumo, in the English Village Shopping Center in North Wales. I am a big sushi eater and was skeptical of a new place, but I heard lots of positive reviews and wanted to try it out for myself.

The sushi was AWESOME. My three friends and I gobbled up every single bite with nothing to spare. We started off with edamame (perfectly cooked and salted) and then had both house and seaweed salads. Both were delicious. Next we tried a variety of your standard cooked and raw rolls, as well as a few rolls from their rather extensive (two-page) special roll list. All of the rolls were amazing and we couldn't stop raving. Our favorites were the Spicy Girl Roll and the Tropical Roll (with banana... I know, sounds weird, but it was great!) Check out the extensive menu.

The inside of the restaurant is very upscale and makes you feel like you are eating in Center City, not North Wales. And though the restaurant is a BYO, we were treated to a glass of complimentary wine each upon our arrival. Very nice!

Finally, I love that you can take advantage of their very reasonable lunch special. For $10, you get soup, salad, and two rolls of your choice. This is a great deal! (And keep a look out for your Clipper Magazine, where you can find $5 off, $10 off and 15% off coupons, as well as on the back of the Kumo to-go menu) Oh, and you can order online! How fab!

I will definitely be back to Kumo very soon.

In the mood for some great BBQ? Check out Rosey's

My husband Mike recently tried Rosey's BBQ, a new restaurant in Jenkintown offering lots of awesome southern BBQ. The pork, ribs, chicken, and brisket were awesome, as well as the sweet potatoes, collared greens, and other sides (with the brisket as the highlight. He was RAVING.). They offer a full menu of great BBQ items, as well as a kids menu that any picky eater would like.

It's a bit unusual to find Memphis Pork ribs and Gumbo in Jenkintown, but according to many people I have spoken to, this BBQ is some of the best they have tasted.

Give it a try! Oh, and bring some of your favorite beer or drinks, it's BYO!

Not too much exciting to report right now except that some signs are up and ULTA is coming to the Horsham Gate shopping center (the last vacancy in the shopping center). They have been hiring staff all month so we think they will be opening by May.

Great food at Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza

Tonight my family and I tried Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza for the first time, in the new Horsham Gate shopping center off Welsh Road. When we walked in we were surprised how crowded the restaurant was, but were quickly seated and had good service throughout the night.

Though the menu is somewhat limited (mostly pizza, salads, and a few of their specialties), we loved everything we ate. We got to sample some of their grilled chicken wings, which were awesome (and I never eat wings!). We also tried their coal-fired pizza, which we all loved. My kids gobbled down 2 and 3 pieces each! I had a great tomato mozzarella salad, too. We were very impressed with the food, happy with the pricing (dinner for 4 for $25!) and will definitely be heading back soon.

One note, though: the coal-fired pizza does take a decent amount of time to bake. So if you are with small, impatient, hungry kids like me, make sure you place your pizza order when you arrive.

Open for both lunch and dinner, and with bar service!

Since the weather has been better I have been making more frequent trips over to Udder Delight in the Shop N Bag shopping center. This fun and happening ice cream shop has a great selection of hard ice creams that are amazing, water ice, soft service ice cream and yogurt, which can be flavored with over 50 flavors, and much more.

Some of the things that I didn't know about Udder Delight, that set it apart from other "typical" ice cream places, are that:

- They now make Homemade Ice Cream, every day it is made from scratch in the store.
- They have Low Cal drinks, smoothies, and yogurt.
- They have great water ice that is more affordable and bigger servings than others in the area. For the adults, they can do Spiked Water Ice -- you bring in your alcohol and they spike it for you. Large batches only…but it is amazing! Great for a party.
- They also have what they call Cow Patties (pictured to the right), fresh Hope’s Cookies baked in the store with your choice of ice cream.
- Try their frozen hot chocolate... amazing!

Of course, Udder Delight is also a great place to get an ice cream cake for your next party, or to host a unique party with crafts and sundae-making!

Stop by soon and enjoy all of these awesome treats with the great Spring weather!

Big the Musical opened yesterday through this weekend at Temple Sinai

A great show for kids and adults, Big the Musical, is showing at Temple Sinai tonight at 7:30pm, Saturday night at 8pm, and Sunday at 2pm.

Who doesn't wish that they could make some changes to their lives?! Well Josh Baskin one day innocently wishes to be 'big' at the fair after being made fun of for being too small and before he knows it, he's got an adults life, along with all of the problems that come with it!

Purchase tickets in advance or at the door.  $10 in advance for students and seniors, $12 at the door. $15 in advance for adults, $18 at the door.

Enjoy the show!

West Ave Grille Too in Dresher Opens

The West Ave Grille Too in Dresher opened this week and I was very excited to check it out yesterday for lunch with friends! Everyone loved their dish! I had a delicious grilled chicken sandwich and my friends had an egg white veggie omelet and a turkey avocado wrap. We agreed the prices were reasonable and we would frequent the joint. The service was great and we didn't wait for a table when we got there close to noon. When we left an hour later, the place was packed! They don't take reservations but they will take call ahead seating starting in a few weeks. The restaurant serves Breakfast and Lunch all day and has more than a dozen Dinner entrees that are served after 5pm. I am really excited to have a breakfast spot in the neighborhood and another restaurant that does good take-out close by. They have a few flat screen tv's on the wall which will be great when you need to watch a game. They do have a kids menu and it looks great! Their hours are: Tuesday-Thursday & Sunday 8:00AM-8:30PM and Friday & Saturday 8:00AM-9:30PM. The address is: 1650 Limekiln Pike and is located in the Dreshertown Shopping Center where Carambola used to be. Their phone number is 215-367-5428.

A getaway close to home: The Joseph Ambler Inn

This past weekend I got to experience a little getaway just a few miles from home. My husband Mike and I had a great dinner and spent the night at the Joseph Ambler Inn. Though Mike and I have both grown up and lived in this area for years, neither of us had ever been to or experienced the Joseph Ambler Inn. I'm not sure why it took us so long to go, but I am so glad we went, and I would highly recommend it!

Once you pull up the driveway, you are immediately taken back by the beautiful grounds and buildings and the tranquil feeling of the whole place. Though most of the Inn was covered with snow when we were there, the grounds are beautiful and it's nice to take a walk around these amazing historic (yet renovated) buildings that make up the Inn.

We stayed in the John Roberts house, which was built in the 1700's and moved to the property in 2003. It combines the old charm and character with new, up-to-date amenities. Each room is nicely appointed with a spa tub and full bath. Room rates are very affordable, starting at $115 per night (including breakfast!)

The food at the Joseph Ambler Inn was amazing. We had dinner on Saturday night and the highlights were the cheese plate as well as my sea bass -- probably the best I have had in years. I will definitely be back soon for that again. The bar was fun and intimate and we loved the feeling inside the restaurant. We felt like we were away, yet we were so close to home. (Also noteworthy to mention is the $35 three-course menu, available every night.) In the morning, we had a full buffet breakfast, which was included in the price of the room. Eggs, potatoes, bacon, cereals, yogurt, fruit, bagels, and more is included. It was delish.

For a busy couple who want to get away, but don't have a lot of time, this is the perfect place. It's close and convenient, romantic and beautiful, and very affordable. (Check out the amazing specials they are having right now, including $100 night rooms!) It's also a fabulous place for a private party or wedding. I will definitely be recommending this to my clients for both small and large weddings, as well as brunches, showers, etc.

Mike and I will definitely be back soon!

Thanks to the Joseph Ambler Inn for inviting us for an overnight stay!

A new sushi place! Sushi 4 You in Horsham

Tonight we tried Sushi 4 you (takeout) in Horsham (in the shopping center at Horsham and Norristown Roads). We were a little scared because the last time we ate at Yama (same place, different owner) we were not happy.

Well, this time we found the sushi to be very good! We ordered a few different rolls and really enjoyed them. The fish was fresh, the rolls a great size, and overall we just liked it! Next time we will order more quantity and variety (we wanted to get our feet wet first)

You can actually order online and they will have it ready for you, too. Pretty neat!

Girls: get yourself some OPI gel nails at Twinkling Nails

For years I have struggled with getting manicures. I love the way it looks for the first day or two, and then it chips, and I hate it. But today, at Twinkling Nails in Ambler, I tried out a brand-new product from OPI, called Axxium Gel nail polish. This soak-off gel nail polish is supposed to last 2 weeks with no chips. It applies like nail polish (painted on) and then dries in a UV drier while your nails are getting done. There are over 20 colors available (from light to dark to French), and when your manicure is finished, you can walk out with totally dry, chip-free nails! The whole process took about 45 minutes and costs $25. This is life-changing for me!!!

Twinkling Nails was great, and I enjoyed a (free) massage when my manicure was over. Plus, when you get the Gel nails, they give you a free Paraffin for your hands!

Check it out!

Need help around the house? Try the Home Show!

Today I got the opportunity to check out the Philadelphia Home Show downtown at the Convention Center. I love looking around at all of the companies and products out there to help me decorate, build, and improve on my home.

The show is running until January 24th downtown, and is a must-see if you are planning to do any work on your home in the next few years. From kitchen remodeling (granite, cabinetry, etc) to gutter guards, to Jacuzzi's, faux painting, and more, they are all at the Home Show to help you with your home needs.

I got the chance to pick up some new products (a cool mop, an interesting squeegee thing to remove pet hair, and some great dip mix... which by the way, you can sample your way through the Home Show with lots of dips and soups!) I also collected about seven phone numbers and websites of companies that I would be interested in talking to in the future about helping me with my house. There are also lots of opportunities to win lots of prizes all around the show!

I also enjoyed seeing the model rooms (a baby room, green room, spa, and very cool Man's Den) and got the chance to meet Ricky Bottalico (former Phillie and Comcast commentator). There are various celebrity appearances occurring throughout the show -- check out the schedule to see who else is coming soon.

If you plan to go, make sure you order your tickets online to save $3 per person. Enjoy!

Thanks to the Philadelphia Home Show for two admission tickets to experience the show!

Ambler YMCA -- free trial week and no joining fee!

I was at the Ambler Y yesterday and got some great info for anyone looking to sample a new gym. (It peaked my interest!)

During the month of January, anyone can give the Y a try for a free week. Simply call or go in to get your free week membership. They have a great schedule of classes (and I hear they are really good classes) and they also have an awesome room with moon bounces where you can workout while your kids play. (This is perfect for me, since my little one won't go to babysitting) I also love that each cardio machine in the workout room has a very nice TV. Makes working out a little easier!

Also, for the month of January, if you sign up to be a member your one-time joiner fee (normally $125 for a single parent family or $149 for a family) is waived!

For those interested in progress of the new Ambler Y, I was told that by this time next year they should be in their new building off of McKean Road. Yea!

Thursday 5pm -- Free Groceries at Whole Foods!!

Brick House Tavern + Tap -- a place for the guys

I have yet to check out the new Brick House Tavern and Tap in Willow Grove (Located off of 611 right by the Willow Grove Turnpike entrance, by Home Depot), but I have heard good things. This cool-looking spot is targeted to guys, with "brick house girls" (think Hooters), a "man food" menu, and lots of cool imported beer (plus table taps, and mini kegs). Plus there are tons of flat-screen TV's, perfect for all of the playoff football coming up.

The menu looks... well, interesting. And the beer menu looks pretty big. Check out the food menu and beer menu.
